1. What are the uses of VideoPix app?
A. VideoPix can be used to grab images (frames) from the video in three simple steps - "find it, grab it, share it." It can also be used to play video in slow motion, pause and perform frame by frame navigation of the video.
2. What do you mean by frame?
A. In layman terms, every video is composed of a sequence of photos taken in quick succession in very short intervals of time. So when you are watching a video, what you are essentially seeing is a sequence of photos in quick succession which gives a sense of motion to the human eye. Each such image is called a frame.
3. How many frames are there in video?
A. This may vary from video to video, but generally there are either twenty four or thirty frames in every single second of video.
4. Why do I need to grab frames from Video?
A. There are many cases where this is useful like,
i) Professional video editors need this for analyzing frames of video in detail,
ii) You are a video fan or amateur photographer who loves taking perfectly timed photographs, then video frames are actually nothing but perfectly timed photographs(with precision of fraction of a second).
5. But when do I really need to take perfectly timed photographs?
A. Everyone who likes taking pictures would actually love to have perfectly timed photographs which everyone else misses. Some real life use cases of this may include (but not limited to):
i) You are a Sports fan and use the camera to take pictures of your child scoring that home run or your favorite basketball player going for that dunk,
ii) You are a teenager or a person who loves taking photos in awkward poses of your friends and sharing with others,
iii) You are a parent who wants to capture your baby's first steps.
One could find several examples like the above from his own life experience, if not less.
6. Does VideoPix really solve the above problem?
A. Yes, VideoPix on iPhone 3GS solves your problem of taking perfectly timed pictures with the help of your iPhone 3GS video camera.
7. What are the other uses of VideoPix?
A. Apart from helping you grab perfectly timed photographs, our customers have found several other uses like:
i) Discovering and grabbing pictures hidden inside their already shot videos,
ii) Analyze videos frame by frame and play in slow motion. Quoting the review of one of the customers on the App Store, he says:
"I was totally amazed to take a minute of time and have it slowed down to really see each second in it's parts. It makes you realize how fast everything moves and what we miss.....I would still recommend this app for viewing those parts of our life that we never see when played back at normal speed."
iii) If you want to take pictures discreetly without targeting anybody and without the accompanying clicking sound, then shooting a video and using VideoPix to save the desired pictures from it is the ideal solution for you. Use it to capture that face from the crowd.
We would love to hear how you used this app.
8. Is frame by frame navigation feature in VideoPix useful?
A. This is very useful feature for those who want to manipulate videos at their own will. The most obvious of it is to analyze hidden details in the video which are obscured by the video player, as the customer in the above review said. Another customer found it useful in detecting and correcting his son's golf swing.
9. Is VideoPix capable of pulling frames from Videos in folders other than camera roll?
A. This feature shall soon be submitted as an update and will be available in version 1.2 of VideoPix. This will help you pull out frames from not just the videos that you shot with the camera, but other ones that you put in your photo library.
10. What is the size of the grabbed photos?
A. Equal to the resolution of the video the 3GS shoots - 640x480 (twice the size of the iPhone screen)
11. What device does this device work on?
A. iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1 and above.
12. Does this have built-in photo library?
A. Yes. Version 1.1 is going to have a full-fledged iPhone photos app kind of of a photos library where the grabbed frames will be saved.
13. What all videos sources can it use?
A. It can grab frames from all videos in the camera roll.
14. Can I share the grabbed photos with my friends?
A. Yes, you can email the photos to your friends.
15. How much does the app cost?
A. 2.99 USD.
16. VideoPix seems to crashing repeatedly on pressing controls. What do I do?
A. This problem is faced by a very small number(less than 1%) of our users. This is caused when the iPhone 3GS is not rebooted since many days and starts running low on memory (RAM) which is required for programs like VideoPix. The workaround is to reboot your iPhone and then reopen VideoPix. In general also it is a good idea to reboot your iPhone every week or so. This problem is peculiar not only to VideoPix but other image processing apps and games.
Our version 1.1 further optimizes the memory usage of the program and will fix this issue. It will be a free update and has been submitted to Apple a few days back.
17. I have a iPhone 3G. VideoPix is not working on my iPhone. What do I do?
A. VideoPix works only on the iPhone 3GS. This fact is clearly mentioned in the appstore description in the requirements section.
18 When was this app released?
A. October 24th.
19. When is the next update expected?
